When A Woman’s Fed Up: Tashera Simmons aka ‘Mrs. DMX’ Files For Divorce & Is Ready To Start Over

By on

Known as the ultimate ride or die chick after 14 years of marriage to famed New York rapper DMX, Tashera has definitely earned her stripes. For those unfamiliar with her husband, DMX earned famed in the late 90′s with big hits like “Where My Dogs At“, “How It’s Going Down” and “Ruff Ryders Anthem“.  With the fame came a lot of things like money, power and respect, but unfortunately so did the women and the groupies.

During her 14 year marriage to DMX, Tashera Simmons put up with a lot from him, much more than any other woman could probably take.  Over the years, it has been reported that Tashera stuck by him even though he has six other children outside of the marriage, not including the four children that they have together.  For some, Tashera may be the dumbest woman on earth but in her eyes she was just loving the man she thought would love her forever and she was willing to go to the ends of the earth to make it work.

In a final attempt to salvage the marriage and union that DMX has continued to wreck with his multiple affairs, infidelities, drug abuse and arrests, both Tashera and DMX both appeared on the VH1 reality show Couples Therapy in hopes that things could be made better, however to no ones surprise, we witnessed first hand the amount of abuse and disrespect that Tashera has endured for all these years.  With most of us shaking our heads in shame and coming to the conclusion that DMX would never really change and Tashera will never leave him behind we quickly brushed it off but Tashera was not done with us yet…

During the season finale, Tashera hit viewers and DMX with a one two POW when she announced that she no longer wanted to be in her marriage and that she would be filing for divorce.  During her recent interview with Essence Magazine, Tashera speaks publicly about her decision to finally walk away.

ESSENCE.COM: So, you’ve officially decided to file for divorce, right?

TASHERA SIMMONS: Yes and no. There’s so much to be decided on, so we’re actually in the process of filling now. Our lawyers want to give us advice. On the show, he was really stunned and he couldn’t believe it. I don’t know why. After going through all the stuff we did — after he did all the things he has done and after us going through therapy — I was just like, I couldn’t leave [the show] without asking for a divorce.

ESSENCE.COM: That took a lot of courage. How do you feel?

SIMMONS: I felt like it was time. I’m [about] self-empowerment now, and I was so totally over the situation. I want to help other women, so I knew I needed to put my relationship on Front Street so they could see what I was dealing with, and what I chose to do.

ESSENCE.COM: Was deciding on the divorce a tough decision?

SIMMONS:I do still feel bad about getting a divorce, even after everything X put me through, because I took my vows very seriously. And, I know X is never going to love anyone the way he loves me, and I feel the same way about him. But [there] just comes a time when you give your all, and you know you gave your all, and it’s just time to move on. When you know [you've given] 100 percent, then I would say definitely consider divorce. Marriage wasn’t a joke for me… Regardless of what was going on, I still stayed loyal and faithful to my marriage. That’s why I can move on and feel really good right now because I know I gave my all to this marriage.
