R&B Divas Fun Facts: Who Is Nicci Gilbert?

It took me a minute to recognize Nicci Gilbert for the talent maven that she is.  After watching her on the super-trailer, her voice and face seemed so familiar to me that I had to look her up.  I was surprised that my mind allowed me to forget her face as I found through my research that she is/was one-third of one of my favorite groups from the 90’s, Brownstone.

Hitting the scene in the mid-90’s, Nicci Gilbert and Brownstone, were signed to Michael Jackson’s record label (MJJ) where they released hits like If You Love Me, 5 Miles To Empty and Grapevine.

Following her stint with Brownstone, Nicci Gilbert branched out to more guest spot work in television by landing the roles of Cousin Aleasha to Pam on the hit 90’s sitcom Martin and Helen Robinson on Living Single. Nicci eventually made her way to the big screen with the role of Crayola in the movie Woo in addition to a number of other acting gigs including the role of Aunt Vera in Tyler Perry’s 2004 stage play Meet The Browns.

More recently, the beautiful vixen/diva has been busy working on new music for her solo project in addition to putting in work at the creator and head designer for her plus size clothing line Curvato Fashion Line. Described as the determined one on the show, Gilbert also shares executive producer credit on the upcoming reality TV show R&B Diva’s featuring herself, Faith Evans, Syleena Johnson, Keky Wyatt and Monifah.

So what have we learned?

  • Nicci was lead vocalist / main songwriter of R&B vocal trio, “Brownstone”
  • Nicci was signed to MJJ (Michael Jackson) records.
  • Nicci has done quite a bit of acting having been featured on Martin as Pam’s singing cousin Aleasha, Aunt Vera in Tyler Perry’s 2004 play “Meet The Browns”, Singing Helen Robinson on Living Single and Crayola from the movie Woo
  • Nicci Gilbert is originally from Detroit, MI
