With the recent news swirling around Evelyn Lozada regarding her domestic issue with her husband Chad Ochocinco and Rihanna’s recent sit-down with Oprah in which she admitted still being in love with Chris Brown after their 2009 domestic issue, it is easy to get lost in the hype and forget that situations like this happen everyday in the real world and are often far more tragic and deadly.

Deanna Cook Patrick, killed August 17th by ex husband

Such is the case with a Dallas woman who recently lost her life after being attacked by her ex-husband while she was on the phone with 9-1-1 dispatch.  Even more tragic is knowing that had dispatch and police officers done a more thorough job in responding and investigating the call Deanna Cook Patrick would still be alive and well with her daughter.

According to police reports, Deanna Cook Patrick called 9-1-1 on August 17th after an altercation between herself and her ex-husband, Delvecchio Patrick, took place in her apartment.  At some point, Deanna was able to call the police and can be heard yelling and screaming for help.  Deanna also can be heard via the call recording yelling for her ex-husband to stop, by name, as well as gasping for air.

After taking a total of 9 minutes to locate Deanna’s address, dispatch sent police officers out to the address.  When the police officers arrived at the location, report say that they knocked on the door, waited and when no one answered the door the simply left the apartment complex leaving Deanna in the home to die.

Coming under fire for they ‘lack of professionalism’ the Dallas Police Department released the following statement via their Facebook Page:

The Department’s preliminary review has determined that the 911 call originated from a cell phone. As a result, the 911 call-taker did not know the exact address of the caller. The 911 call taker attempted to obtain the address from the caller, while simultaneously conducting a search of previous calls from the same cell phone number to determine an associated address. The call taker also notified the 911 on-duty supervisor of the ongoing issue. The call was forwarded to the dispatcher but could not be dispatched to field officers until an address was determined. Once the address was confirmed, the 911 call taker updated the call information so the call could be dispatched. The process of obtaining the address and updating the call information took approximately 9 minutes.

Once obtaining an address, the dispatcher gave the call to the first available police field element. The officers that received the call arrived at the location and knocked at the door. When no one answered, they requested a call-back of the caller which went to voicemail. They also checked the perimeter windows of the home and spoke with neighbors who reported that they had not heard any disturbance.

The Department is seeking to determine if the nature of the call was sufficiently communicated through each step of the process to the responding officers and the appropriateness of their response based on the information provided.

Even crazier, earlier that day Deanna responded to a tweet from Tyrese in which she revealed that he ex-husband had, in fact, threatened to kill her on several occasions.

She was killed that night and found by family members 2 days later. Her ex-husband has been arrested and is being held in the Dallas County Jail with a set bail of $500,000.  While no word has been released on what caused her ex-husband to kill her, speculation around his sexuality has come into play as a possible motivation after Deanna tweeted about her ex-husband being on the ‘down-low’.

I just found out my Down Low X Husband Lovers name!! Wat a SOUR PUSS…
