Gay Men of MIAKA Want To Sue AKA Sorority Claiming Discrimination For Not Allowing Them To Join

MIAKA

So, I ran across this article the other day via Facebook and my first reaction (after rolling my eyes and mush facing my computer screen) was actually a very vulgar and unpleasant one.  First let me be the first to admit that I had no idea that there was an organization of homosexual men (MIAKA) to begin with.  After reading further into the article, I sucked my teeth and cried in laughter after reading that these men were threatening to sue the Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporation after their failed attempt at joining the sorority.  My inner soul curled up in laughter thanks to this ridiculous and outlandish attempt to call action.  This is just, what I like to call, foolery.

MIAKA in AKA Colors

According to KollegeKidd.com, MIAKA are crying foul and discrimination after their requests to join the sorority was denied.

Men interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, also known as MIAKAs, are threatening to file a lawsuit against Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a sorority founded at Howard University on Jan. 15, 1908. The group of men, whom all are homosexual, are alleging homophobia and gender discrimination by the sorority.

News of MIAKAs first surfaced a couple years ago when men founded an unofficial chapter of AKA at Texas Southern University and Prairie view A&M.

Members of the Greek community were shocked when the Tri Alpha Chapter of MIAKI presented photos of men adorned in pink and green and pearls, while throwing up their “pinkies.” People were even more shocked to learn the chapter had even filmed a probate show with sounds of the sorority’s famous call “skee wee” being heard in the background.

The group plans to argue that the sorority exhibited homophobia and gender discrimination.

While I applaud and congratulate these men for taking the initiative in creating a lane for themselves and nailing an untapped market for homosexual men, I feel that it is completely disrespectful to attempt to join a sorority that has been and still is traditionally targeted for women. Furthermore, I believe it to be unreasonable and selfish to insist that you be allowed to join an established group that was not designed to suit you. While most may try and compare this situation to the fight and struggle to Blacks fighting for their rights, I will have to disagree and move on respectfully.

SN:  Those men pictured above are 100% laid…y’all better WORK! (snaps)

What are your thoughts?  Should gay men/women be allowed to join sororities and fraternities opposite of their gender?

This is ridiculous. Next thing they’ll suing to use public women’s restrooms. A sorority by definition is a club meant for women. Are these guys even in college because it seems as if theyre dumb as hell. They’re not creating a lane for themselves theyre trying to get in someone else’s where they dont belong. Why not create a gay fraternity who accepts both men and women? That’s creating a lane and being the change you want to see in the world. This is just crazy, idiotic and disrespectful.

Come on now! I could see if they were suing a male fraternity for not allowing them to join, but it’s a sorority founded by women and meant for women. I mean come on.

I’m 100% for equal rights for everyone, but this is ridiculous! That’s not discrimination. This is only going to hurt the fight of gay rights activists.
