Basketball Wives Royce Reed Talks Tami Roman, BBW Backlash, Why Shaunie Is Upset With Her & Her Future With The Show

With all of the attention surrounding Tami Roman attacking Kesha, Shaunie O’Neal nonchalant attitude and Evelyns’ less than classy behavior it is easy to forget about the other cast members who are not directly involved in the circle of drama.  One such cast member, Royce Reed, has been noticeably absent from a lot of the scenes this season and for good reason.

In a recent interview with TT Torez, Royce reveals her personal feelings towards the show, her feelings on Tami’s behavior and her fight with the shows producers to stop showing her in a negative light and to showcase her positive side.

On the shows impact on her personal brand and why she now chooses to distance herself from the show:

When I first started [Basketball Wives] my primary reason was to clear up the image that had been attached to me [Dwight Howard] and it was kind of hindering me from really pursuing my career because of what people thought of me.  Once my image began to change [on the show] it was at that point that I started contemplating on my real life outside of me arguing or worrying about things that didn’t matter.  People ask me if I’d return to the show and I’m like yeah… I mean…I have established my platform and it gives me a chance to show people other aspects of who I am outside of what they read in the media.

On Evelyn and Shaunie refusing to film with her:

They chose not to film with me this season, I don’t know if it is going to be like that next season…but we’ll see.   I know what I signed up for so I don’t do the whole “I refuse to film with this person” thing.  I mean, I can’t babysit anybody or hold anybody’s hand.  I don’t know why Shaunie has an issue with me, I tried to reach out to her but she ignored me.  I can only guess that she has issues with me doing interviews and all I am doing is defending myself.  To say that I don’t have much klout? Come on now, you can’t really expect to say all of these things about me and then think I’m not going to defend myself.

On her and Jen’s relationship:

Jen and I are cool.  We text each other here and there to check up on each other but I wouldn’t say that we’re are best friends, but I’m open to seeing where this goes. We’ve apologized and moved on. Neither of us wanted to film that scene together [for obvious reasons] but we wanted to be women about it and settle our differences and I’m happy that we did.

On the shows backlash:

I think I was one of the first of  the cast members who stepped back and decided I needed to change.  I told everyone that eventually it was going to get old and that there needed to be some kind of balance on the show and I actually fought for mine.  At one point I quit the show because I felt like it was going downhill, now you see me pursuing my career and doing things outside of the circle and I had to fight for that.  Now all you see is a bunch of drama, I understand that drama sells, but people still want to see and need to see that balance in order to come to a full understanding of what is going on.

On if she thinks that Tami is bully:

I’ve told Tami on many occasions that I did not want her to be portrayed as a bully because that is not the person that I know.  After these last two episodes, I think she is finally starting to see where everyone is getting these perceptions of her from and even though she was mad at me for my blog and may still be upset with me [I don’t know] I think now she is starting to realize what I was saying.  I never took a side but I was honest and I think she is seeing it now. I don’t defend her actions at all, but outside of what they film of Tami there is a Tami that is sweet, giving and loving.  A real friend tells you when you are acting out of character and being a fool, I did that for Tami, hopefully we can move past it.
